tri VIA Duo Sonoma feat. Paul Schuberth
In 2023, Mira and Sara Gregorič - already well known as "Duo Sonoma" at the Vienna Cultural Summer - invited the Upper Austrian accordion player Paul Schuberth to perform a few concerts together. It was a special honor for Schuberth to be able to immerse himself in the sound universe developed by the Gregorič sisters over 20 years!
The rare line-up of violin, guitar and accordion alone offers a wealth of expressive possibilities: the delicate and gentle need not hide behind the explosive, and both combine here to create flights of depth. With their new program, the musicians, who have been through all the waters of jazz, improvised music, folk music and classical music, present pieces they have come up with themselves (somewhere between spontaneity and complex arrangement), but also compositions by some of the artists the ensemble members love. The trio is concerned with the overall sound - but this also results from the individuality of the individual voices, which sometimes ensnare each other, sometimes move away from each other in a friendly and productive way. There are actually two ensembles in this trio: one with a melody instrument and two harmony instruments, which certainly achieves sound power; one with three melody instruments with a penchant for contrapuntal fragility. All of these are more or less meaningful big words.
Another big word: “joy of playing”! And this probably best describes the music of the three artists…
